Manchester City and England star Jack Grealish was fined by magistrates after he admitted speeding in his £100,000 Range Rover.
The Birmingham-born midfielder was clocked by a mobile camera driving at 44mph in a 30mph zone in Wythall, Worcestershire, last July.
He did not appear at Worcester magistrates’ court on Wednesday morning but his barrister entered a guilty plea on his behalf.
Grealish had also been facing a charge of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver. But prosecutors asked for the charge to be withdrawn after his guilty plea to the speeding offence.
JPs fined the player £666 and handed him five penalty points. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £110 and a victim surcharge of £266, leaving him with a total fine of £1,042.
The 28-year-old’s barrister John Dye said he had been instructed to apologise on Grealish’s behalf. Mr Dye said of his client: “Mr Grealish means no discourtesy by not attending. I am instructed to enter a guilty plea on his behalf in relation to speeding."
After confirming that the maximum penalty for the offence was £1,000, reduced to £666 after a guilty plea, Mr Dye told the court: “He can afford to pay that figure. I am asked to apologise on his behalf. It was a mistake.”
Grealish was banned from driving for nine months in 2020 and given an £82,499 fine for two counts of careless driving. The first offence occurred during the UK national Covid lockdown. He crashed his car just a day after posting a video on social media asking for people to stay at home to protect the NHS during the pandemic.
