5am – A/B/C   Trump attacks protections for immigrants from ‘shithole’ countries. (Washington Post) — President Trump grew frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they discussed protecting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to several people briefed on the meeting. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, according to these people, referring to countries mentioned by the lawmakers.

Trump then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries such as Norway, whose prime minister he met with Wednesday. The president, according to a White House official, also suggested he would be open to more immigrants from Asian countries because he felt they help the United States economically.

5am – D/E     Megyn Kelly: Fat-shaming helps, asked stepdad to call her ‘fat ass’ (Entertainment Weekly) — Megyn Kelly revealed on NBC’s Today that she supports fat shaming to some degree. On Thursday, Kelly was interviewing “Fit Mom” Maria Kang when she advised, “You should parlay the shaming thing into a professional business. Because some of us want to be shamed.” Then Kelly followed it up with this: “When I was in law school, I was gaining weight, I said to my stepfather, ‘If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, ‘Where you going, fat ass?’ And it works!” That produced some uncomfortable laughter from the audience (because who actually wants their stepfather to make comments about their posterior?). “My husband does that to me all the time,” Kang added. “I tell him my goals and if it’s early in the morning and he sees me still in bed, he’s like, ‘What are you doing in here?’ Or if I’m doing something like eating something, like chips, he’ll take the bag and he’ll hide it. And I don’t feel ashamed of that because I told him what my goal was.” “If my husband did that, there would be retributions,” Kelly said.

Meghan McCain criticizes Megyn Kelly for saying some women ‘want to be’ fat-shamed. (The Hill) – “The View” co-host Meghan McCain criticized NBC’s Megyn Kelly Thursday after Kelly said some women “want” to be fat-shamed. “I was publicly fat shammed early on in my career and it sent me to therapy. Trust me, there are real life ramifications for fat shaming of any kind, it is NEVER acceptable,” McCain tweeted.

President Donald Trump is open to discussing future amnesties for illegal immigrants as legislative bargaining chips with democratic lawmakers, White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah told WMAL’s “Mornings On The Mall” Thursday. “I think Democrats have a whole host of priorities on immigration reform. They want to see legal status for other individuals who have come into this country illegally, and that’s something the president is willing to talk about and I think willing to discuss,” Shah responded to a question as to how Trump will continue to negotiate with democrats over immigration policy reform after passing a DACA agreement.

6am – E         McAuliffe: If Trump got in my space ‘you’d have to pick him up off the floor’ / Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe implied Thursday night that he would punch President Donald Trump if he got in the governor’s space, adding that it “would be the last time Donald Trump ever did that.” “If he ever came over and leaned on me and got in my space, that would be the last time Donald Trump ever did that. I promise you that,” McAuliffe said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” Host Chris Matthews asked the Virginia governor what he would do if the president tried to intimidated him and if “he came over and leaned over back of you.” “You’d have to pick him up off the floor,” McAuliffe responded. Matthews asked McAuliffe if he would “deck” Trump, to which the governor replied: “You want to get in my space, I’ve always said, Chris, you punch me, I’m going to punch you back twice as hard. And it wouldn’t be hard to do it, but you know, this guy thinks he can intimidate everybody.” McAuliffe also ripped Trump’s comments during a private meeting on immigration with lawmakers in which the president referred to “shithole countries,” calling Trump an “embarrassment to our country.”

6am – F         Facebook Overhauls News Feed to Focus on What Friends and Family Share — NOT PUBLISHERS. SAN FRANCISCO (NYTIMES) – Facebook introduced sweeping changes to the kinds of posts, videos and photos that its more than 2 billion members will see most, saying on Thursday (Jan 11) that it will prioritise what their friends and family share and comment on while de-emphasising content from publishers and brands. The shift is the most significant overhaul in years to Facebook’s News Feed, the cascading screen of content that people typically see when they log into the social network. Over the next few weeks, users will begin seeing fewer viral videos and news articles posted by media companies. Instead, Facebook will highlight posts between friends – for example, a photo of your dog, or a status update that many of your friends have commented on or liked. The changes are intended to maximise the amount of content with “meaningful interaction” that people consume on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s chief executive, said in an interview. Facebook, he said, had closely studied what kinds of posts had stressed or harmed users. The social network wants to reduce what Zuckerberg called “passive content” – videos and articles that ask little more of the viewer than to sit back and watch or read – so that users’ time on the site was well spent.

The lure of Tide Pods, which look almost like candy, broke into satirical conversations as early as 2015 when The Onion published column from the perspective of a child who wanted to eat a blue and red detergent pod. This followed numerous reports pods were getting into the hands of curious toddlers, which can cause serious harm.  In 2017, poison control centers received reports of more than 10,500 exposures to highly concentrated packed of laundry detergent by children 5 and younger, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers.

7am – E         TRUMP TWEETS:

  • Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 14m14 minutes ago The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!
  • Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 2m22 minutes ago ….Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards. The Dems will threaten “shutdown,” but what they are really doing is shutting down our military, at a time we need it most. Get smart, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
  • Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 32m32 minutes ago ….countries which are doing badly. I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level. I want safety and security for our people. I want to stop the massive inflow of drugs. I want to fund our military, not do a Dem defund….
  •  Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 43m43 minutes ago The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and USA would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime…..
  • Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump 8h8 hours ago Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!
  • Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 8h8 hours ago The Democrats seem intent on having people and drugs pour into our country from the Southern Border, risking thousands of lives in the process. It is my duty to protect the lives and safety of all Americans. We must build a Great Wall, think Merit and end Lottery & Chain. USA!
  •  Donald J. Trump  @realDonaldTrump 10h10 hours ago Democrat Dianne Feinstein should never have released secret committee testimony to the public without authorization. Very disrespectful to committee members and possibly illegal. She blamed her poor decision on the fact she had a cold – a first!
  •  Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 10h10 hours ago Chrysler is moving a massive plant from Mexico to Michigan, reversing a years long opposite trend. Thank you Chrysler, a very wise decision. The voters in Michigan are very happy they voted for Trump/Pence. Plenty of more to follow!
