The No. 8 Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team begins conference play in its 12th season in the Atlantic Coast Conference Saturday afternoon at Virginia.

Faceoff is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

Syracuse (7-2) is riding a four-game winning streak while the Cavaliers (5-4) enter Saturday’s contest winners of its last two games.

Syracuse and Virginia meet for the 43rd time on Saturday and the series is dead even at 21-21.

The Orange holds a one-goal advantage, 555-554, in a series that dates back to 1938.

FINAL: Syracuse 12, Virginia 10

Another close call between Syracuse and Virginia goes SU’s way as the Orange out-score Virginia 3-1 in the third period to clinch the win.

Owen Hiltz and Michael Leo both scored three goals for SU. Hiltz had the final two goals of the game for SU to ice the victory.

Sam English and Payton Anderson both scored twice for the Orange.

SU’s leading scorer Joey Spallina was held to one assist.

Jimmy McCool made several clutch saves, making 17 stops overall in net for the Orange.

McCabe Millon had six points (3g, 3a) for the Cavaliers, who fall to 6-6 on the season.

Virginia controlled face-offs 16-9.

The Cavaliers committed 13 turnovers while SU turned the ball over just eight times.

Syracuse trailed 5-2 at the end of the first quarter but out-scored Virginia in the second, third and fourth.

The Orange now lead the series 22-21 with the all-time score between the two schools in favor of SU by just three goals (567-564).

Syracuse (8-2) carries a five-game winning streak into a huge matchup with No. 6 Notre Dame at the JMA Dome on April 5.
