Georgia was one of the last countries to announce its representative for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, but they finally did—Mariam Shengelia will take the stage with her song “Freedom.”
Last year, Georgia selected their Eurovision representative through internal selection and they were quite pleased with the result. This year, they followed the same method and Mariam Shengelia was announced to go to Basel.
Georgia has never won Eurovision before, but that only makes them more determined to strive for victory.

1. She is from Mingerlia
Mariam Shengelia comes from Mingrelia, also known as Samegrelo, a historic province in the western part of Georgia, previously known as Odishi. She was born on May 14, 2002. She lived in Tibilisi and later she moved with her family in Zugdidi.
2. She has a band
Mariam is an active member of the Georgian cover band Mix2ura.
3. She studied music from a young age
Mariam discovered her passion for music at a very young age. She decided to pursue it further and studied vocal performance and music theory at the Tbilisi State Conservatory.
4. Mariam is inspired by numerous music genres
Mariam can’t pick just one genre that inspires her music. She enjoys a mix of jazz, pop, and soul music, drawing influences from all these styles.
5. She participated in music contests before
Mariam has experience on stage and in televised shows. She competed in X-Factor Georgia in 2018, where she was a semi-finalist. In 2021, she made it to the semi-finals of The Voice Georgia.
6. She tried to represent Georgia before
Eurovision has always been Mariam’s dream. Back in 2019, when Georgia held a talent show to pick their representative, she participated in Geostar. She finished sixth, but unfortunately, the Eurovision 2020 edition was canceled due to the pandemic anyway.
7. Almost a Eurovision backing vocal
Even though she didn’t win Geostar, Mariam was planned to be a backing vocalist for the winner, Tornike Kipiani, who was supposed to represent Georgia in Eurovision 2020. He was set to perform “Take Me as I Am”, with Mariam providing backing vocals, but the pandemic disrupted their plans.
8. Mariam is a great dancer
Mariam participated this year in Tsekvaven Varskvlavebi, the Georgian version of Dancing with the Stars. Not only did she compete, but she also became the runner-up of the competition.
9. She likes Rome
Among the places Mariam has traveled, she holds a special place in her heart for Rome. She even created a special highlight on her Instagram filled with memorable moments from that trip.
10. She was a model for an accessories brand
Mariam has also worked as a model, advertising accessories from the Rue Des Milles brand in Georgia. She showcased the brand’s pieces, adding her own unique style to the campaign.
