NOBLE TOWNSHIP, MI- (WTVB) One person is in custody following a Saturday afternoon police chase that began in Branch County’s Noble Township and ended in Steuben County, Indiana.
Saturday afternoon the Branch County Sheriff’s Office was notified by St Joseph’s County Sherriff’s Office of a possible stolen camper that might be located in Branch County. Deputies were able to locate the trailer in Noble Township. Deputies from both The Branch and St. Joseph counties Sheriff’s Departments were preparing a search warrant for the property when a male approached the residence in the reported suspect vehicle. Upon seeing the male suspect the vehicle fled the scene initiating a pursuit through southwest Branch County, into Steuben County.
Further investigation revealed the truck being driven by the suspect was also stolen.
In a news release the Branch County Sherriff’s Office said “The collaboration between Branch and St. Joseph Counties along with our partners in Indiana, were crucial in recovering stolen property and apprehending the suspect. This highlights the continued effort by the Branch County Sherriff’s Office to reduce criminal behavior and arrest those responsible ensuring that our communities remain safe”.
The suspect who according to jail records in Steuben County is identified as 51-year-old James Edward Williams, of Bronson, MI was taken to Cameron Hospital, and then lodged into the Steuben County Jail on multiple local charges including:
Theft of a motor vehicle
Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle
Battery to a public safety official
Criminal recklessness
Resisting law enforcement
Reckless driving
Possession of marijuana
Possession of paraphernalia.
Williams is being held without bond pending an initial court appearance. Additional charges may follow in Branch and St. Joseph counties as well as LaGrange County in Indiana as the investigation continues.
