North Carolina weatherman sparks fury after dropping 'Easter eggs' into his daily reports
- Chris Michaels has gone viral for his metal music-inspired reporting
- He recently started teasing Sleep Token's upcoming album
- However, some fans aren't happy and have been harassing the weather man
A weatherman in North Carolina has been dropping references to metal music in his forecasts - but some fans have been left outraged.
Chris Michaels has recently gone viral for his reporting at WRAL 5, per Loudwire.
The metalhead started inserting references as early as 2023 to bands such as Bad Omens, Bring Me the Horizon and Slipknot.
And it didn't go unnoticed by music lovers - with some even speculating that Michaels was being used to promote upcoming albums and events for bands.
Most recently, the TV personality dropped hints about Sleep Token, a group from the UK that formed in 2016, and the band's upcoming album, Even in Arcadia, which is releasing in May.
In recent posts on Instagram, Chris even featured the band's cryptic symbol in some pictures.
But some fans of Sleep Token were less than impressed and have allegedly been harassing the weatherman over his Easter eggs, per PennLive.
Many have taken to social media to claim that Michaels has no right to make Sleep Token references since he has no involvement with the band - claiming he is just promoting their music for personal clicks.

Michaels has since issued a statement in light of the backlash.
'So, this is a video that I hate to even make, but my obligation is to my viewers here in North Carolina,' Michael said in the clip posted to his Instagram Stories, according to PennLive.
'And it's come to my attention throughout the Sleep Token project that I've been working with and working on, that a select few have been rude to the viewers on some of the live streams.
'All I ask is that you please don't do that.
'I get the disappointment and the backlash, even toward me, but my viewers didn't sign up for that.
'Especially on a day when we're preparing for potentially severe weather, you know –that's my priority, they're my priority, so please, act with kindness with them if you're going to be watching our live streams.'
People on social media have been supporting Michaels and slamming the Sleep Token fans who have been harassing him.
'Chris Michaels asking Sleep Token fans to not harass his viewers is f***ing embarrassing,' someone wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

'Absolutely f***ing childish man. Harassing viewers, or anyone affiliated with him isn't going to get you the song any faster. The dude's just doing what he was asked to do.'
One person wrote a lengthy comment under one of Chris' Instagram posts that read: 'I just wanna make this comment on behalf of all the Sleep Token worshippers that have been mean and rude to you: I am truly so sorry.
'I don't know where some fans got the idea there was a single coming out with each tease you gave us, most of us understood (but prayed it might be a song) that it was either more info and us preparing/getting clues to get ready for an actual drop from [Sleep Token].
'The rude comments towards you were completely unnecessary.
'A lot [of] us are so happy that they reached out to you to help drop hints and it truly made this experience so fun!
'[I know] you know well enough to ignore the hate but again you didn't deserve that and I want to thank you for the [little] clues and word puzzle you gave us!'
