BOSSIER CITY, La. — Starting next month, a specialized cyber unit of the Louisiana National Guard will officially call northwest Louisiana home.

The 178th Cyber Protection Team will relocate from Baton Rouge to the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, state and local leaders announced on Thursday.

The unit, activated in 2017, plays a key role in protecting Louisiana’s computer networks and responding to cybersecurity threats across the state. Since its inception, the team has responded to 12 state-level cyber incidents.

“This is a big step for Bossier City,” said Mayor Tommy Chandler. “We’re proud to partner with the Louisiana National Guard, and we look forward to more projects like this one in the future.”

The project has been in development for about six months. While two full-time Guard members will be stationed at the Cyber Innovation Center, the unit includes as many as 26 personnel.

Officials say the move highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity in public safety and strengthens the state’s commitment to innovation and digital defense.
